Nuji's Journey as a Dog Mum
Meet Nuji, a dog mum whose love for her furry companions knows no bounds. From a childhood fascination to becoming a devoted dog parent, Nuji's journey is a heartwarming tale of love, friendship, and the challenges of being a responsible pet owner in Lagos.
A Lifelong Love for Dogs:
Since her early days, Nuji's heart has been captivated by the unconditional love and loyalty that dogs offer. From her childhood, she dreamt of having a canine companion who would stand by her side through thick and thin. Growing up, Nuji's neighbor had dogs, but sadly, they were neglected. Witnessing their mistreatment only fueled Nuji's determination to provide the love and care that every dog deserves.
From Dreams to Reality:
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown, Nuji's dream finally came true. She welcomed her first dog, Rainbow, into her life. Rainbow quickly became more than just a pet; she became Nuji's emotional support during those uncertain times. The bond they formed was beyond words—Rainbow's presence brought solace and joy to Nuji's life when the world was in turmoil.
A Sassy Companion:
Rainbow, Nuji's four-legged friend, is a bundle of personality. With a dash of sass and a whole lot of love, Rainbow's character is as vibrant as her name. There are days when Nuji feels like she has a human or even a cat as a pet. Rainbow's loving nature is complemented by her possessiveness, a trait that Nuji finds endearing. Their companionship is a reminder of the unique connections that can exist between humans and animals.
The Most Recent Addition: Jetta
“Jetta is a very sweet boy that was abandoned by his previous owners at the vet; the moment I saw his adoption post I reached out to them asking to adopt him, stating that he would be a good little brother for Rainbow 😂.
When I got the call that I had been selected to adopt him, I went there and I met cutest and furriest Lhasa ever, he was so sweet, it felt like he knew he was coming home with us immediately. It was difficult at first with Rainbow because she did not want another furry being in her space but they eventually became inseparable. He is a very happy, loving and playful boy. Jetta makes you the centre of his world. Rainbow is sassy, Jetta is extremely sweet; he just has a lot of love to give and is still recovering from the hurt of being abandoned by his other family.”
Navigating Challenges in Lagos:
Being a dog parent in Lagos comes with its own set of challenges. Nuji faces obstacles that resonate with many pet owners in the city. Grooming is a task that demands time and attention, especially when you want your furry friends to look their best. But the challenges go beyond aesthetics. Nuji notices the way some people treat her dogs, and it's a reflection of the need for greater awareness about responsible pet ownership.
One significant challenge is the lack of trainers, making it difficult to provide proper training for her dogs. Additionally, Nuji's dogs (Rainbow & Jetta) are picky eaters, and finding suitable food can be a struggle. The cost of maintaining two dogs—taking care of their food, health, and overall well-being—can sometimes be overwhelming.
A Heart Full of Love:
Despite the challenges, Nuji's heart remains full of love for her beloved dogs. The journey of being a dog mum has taught her patience, compassion, and the importance of nurturing strong relationships with her furry companions. Through thick and thin, Nuji, Rainbow and Jetta's bond continues to grow stronger.
